Golf Channel was founded in 1995. The primary purpose of Golf Channel was to provide a central platform for the golfing world to watch live tournaments and stay up to date on news in the golf world. With the recently knew growth of social media, the Golf Channel has had to increase its efforts in social media in order to keep its control over the golfing world. Social media has become very important for Golf Channel’s business because it has allowed them to reach out to and connect with a younger audience. A major topic in the golfing world over the past few years has been “Growing the Game.” The golf world wants to start making golf look cool and have it appeal to younger audiences. Social media has become a strong platform to use in order to “Grow the Game.”
There has been a rise in a few social media accounts that have taken over the golf social media world such as ZireGolf and Skratch Tv. Both of these platforms make golf look cool. The post great shots, protracer videos, and videos that poke fun at the game. On the contrary, Golf Channel is a little old fashion and likes to stick to simply reporting news.

Golf Channel's social media has many strengths. First, they do a great job providing news and information in a timely manner. They post frequently and they use their social media to allow people to stay up to date in the golfing world. They also do a great job having all of their employees to be creating social media content that directly relates back to their work with Golf Channel. Golf Channel also has a few weaknesses. First, most of their social media content relates to the news in the golf world and directs consumers to their website of Tv channel. Second, they do not do a great job using all of the features the mediums provide to create the most engagement with the consumers as possible. Golf Channel has a lot of room for improvement. First, I would recommend more Instagram and Facebook Live sessions that give the consumer more of a behind the scenes look at what goes on at a golf tournament. Next, I will begin to use SnapChat. I would then give players access to the SnapChat and allow them to do a day in the life. This will consumers a look into what goes on in a PGA Tour players daily life. Finally, I would look to make some of the information more interesting. Golf Channel has a lot of amazing stories that get aired on the TV channel. Now they need to focus on getting those stories put on social media accounts so the stories can get out to more people. Golf Channel’s social media has a lot of strengths, but also has a lot of room for growth.

The audience is very limited as a “produser” of more content and information. There is not a lot of conversation and creation that occurs on Golf Channel’s social media. The majority of posts on Instagram and Twitter get well under 100 replies. On the contrary, platforms such as ZireGolf and Skratch Tv routinely get over a couple hundred replies. I personally am tagging people or getting tagged in a few posts from these accounts daily, while I cannot remember the last time I was tagged in a Golf Channel post.
